Ayurveda or Ayurvedic Medicine is one of the worlds most sophisticated and mind-body health system. Ayurveda is a Sanskrit word that literally translates as “the wisdom of life” or “the knowledge of longevity”. It is designed to bring the body back into balance and it’s based on the belief that health and wellness depend on a delicate balance between the mind, body, and spirit.
Ayurveda’s Principles Ayurveda’s fundamental approach is that you must reach your state of balance in your whole being- body, mind, and spirit. It is determined by 3 constitutional principles: pitta, vata and kapha. Pitta energy brings forth the qualities of fire and water. Its domain is the principle of transformation. Pitta is thought to oversee digestion, metabolism, temperature maintenance, sensory perception, and comprehension. Imbalanced pitta can lead to ulcers, inflammation, digestive problems, anger, heartburn and arthritis. Vata energy is composed of air and space. It regulates the principle of movement as such, it is linked any bodily motion—chewing, swallowing, nerve impulses, breathing, muscle movements, thinking, peristalsis, bowel movements, urination, menstruation which requires a balanced vita. When out balanced, any numbers of these movements may be deleteriously affected. Kapha energy composed of earth and water. It governs stability and structure and forms the substance of the human body. An excess of kapha leads to obesity, diabetes, sinus problems, insecurity and gallbladder issues. Benefits of Ayurveda Ayurvedic treatments main aim is to keep a person healthy and not curing them of disease. It promotes wellness in dietary and lifestyle changes and herbal medicines and supplements. Turmeric, a spice and arguably the most powerful herb on the planet, is often prescribed by Ayurvedic practitioners. It has many healing properties and contains beta-carotene, calcium, flavonoids, iron, niacin, potassium, zinc and other nutrients. Turmeric s potentially effective in treating some form of cancers, ulcers, arthritis and diabetes. Several studies have suggested that it may help reduce the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis, according to the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM), a division of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). A 2011 study found that an Ayurvedic herbal compound was just as effective at treating rheumatoid arthritis symptoms as Trexall (methotrexate).
